DSM’s new Research & Development Centre embodies DSM’s motto: ‘Bright Science. Brighter Living.’ The sizable research facility is future-oriented and puts the emphasis on mutual cooperation.
Architects agency Broek Bakema was responsible for the integrated design, aarts & co already was involved during the planning stage and had the opportunity to provide the complete interior.
The new Research & Development Centre transparently combines a diversity of high-graded areas of research under the same roof. Approximately 420 employees work in the building that counts a floor area of over 20.000 m2. The center houses three main function units: offices, laboratories and a pilot plant. The higher and deeper spaces can be organized flexible: as laboratory or office. The public circuit that gives access to the various units, enables growth and reduction of these units without compromising functionality. An ideal cross-fertilization between specialists that results in a challenge for innovation.
The building’s interior design elements all have their own personality in color, shape and appearance. Together, they form a whole that tells the story of DSM: ‘Bright Science. Brighter living.’
